RE/MAX Balloon FAQ

Who can book the RE/MAX balloon?

If you are interested in having the balloon and are not affiliated with RE/MAX, please fill out the Booking Request Form and we will be glad to see if we can accommodate your request.  If you have questions about the program please email us at [email protected].

How do I book the RE/MAX Balloon?
To reserve the balloon please fill out the Booking Request Form.  Events are booked on a first come first serve basis.  Depending on the time of the year, the schedule can fill up months in advance.  If you are planning an event, we recommend reserving the balloon for that date as early as possible.  If that date is currently booked, it doesn’t mean it won’t become available later.  Occasionally there are cancellations.  We do keep track of multiple requests for a date and we will call you if that date becomes open.

How much space do I need for an event?
The hot air balloon requires a grassy square site that is accessible to vehicles and a minimum of 200 ft. by 200 ft. (about 1 square acre) which is free and clear of power lines, light poles, signs, trees, shrubs, cars, people or anything that might cause damage to the balloon fabric.  There should not be any power lines within 50 feet of any part of the balloon area.  Grass needs to be less than 5 inches tall.  No dry grass or hay in the balloon area.

The Static Display requires a 40 ft. by 40 ft. by 30 ft high. space which is free and clear of power lines, light poles, signs, trees, shrubs, cars, people or anything that might cause damage to the balloon fabric.

The RE/MAX Balloon Photo Booth requires a flat paved or with short grass area that is at least 20 Ft. by 20 Ft. by 13 Ft high.

What if I don’t have enough space or the weather is bad on the day I have the balloon booked?
The pilot will discuss the weather forecast with you a day or so prior to the event.  He will give you his thoughts on the forecast and how it might affect your balloon event.  When there is not enough space available or when weather does not permit the inflation of the hot air balloon, the display program saves the day.  With the display program, a 2½ story tall cold air RE/MAX balloon is inflated that really captures the attention of the crowd.  The hot air balloon basket is put out on display for people to look at, get in, and have a chance to take a selfie.  The pilot is available to answer questions from the public about ballooning.  The cold air balloon can handle most weather conditions.  A 40 ft. by 40 ft. by 30 ft. high location will work fine.  You will not need to provide crew if you are doing the display.  If the event is called off prior to the pilot departing for your event, you can reschedule for another available date or get a refund.

What time of day does the hot air balloon operate?
Hot air balloon operations are limited to the first or last two hours of daylight.  Sunrise and Sunset changes every day.  We can recommend a time of day for any date you give us.

How high does the balloon go on a tethered ride?
This can depend on the space provided but normally we can go between 25 and 40 feet high.

How many people do you take on each tethered lift?
This depends on the air temperature at the time of the event.  We are insured to carry a maximum of 3 people plus the pilot on any one lift, but it will depend on the total weight of the passengers.  On warmer days, the balloon can’t lift as much weight so we must reduce the total number of passengers we take on each ride.  Excessive temperatures above 90 degrees can keep us from offering tether rides.

How many people do you usually get through the basket in a 2-hour period?
There are lots of variables that determine how many people we can take up during a 2-hour period.  We normally average between 50 and 100 people on a tether ride.  Keep in mind that the balloon lifts by weight not head count.

How much should I charge for rides?

We can’t “charge” for rides, but you can ask for a donation for an official non-profit organization recognized by the IRS.  We recommend between $15 and $30 per person.

Can I charter the balloon for a flight?
Unfortunately, this is not allowed.  The balloon is for promotional/marketing use only.

What time of the year do you fly or tether the balloon?
The RE/MAX balloon operates year-round.  Winter can see fewer flyable days per month than other months.

What else will I need to provide for the balloon appearance?
  • Arrange to have 5 or 6 able-bodied adults to act as crew members for the balloon for the duration of the event.
  • Arrange for 3 larger vehicles, not including balloon truck, to use as anchors for the balloon (SUV/Pick-Up).
  • If required, secure any permits and/or permission from local municipalities.
